On Saturday night, Blackpink kicked off its 2019 lineup with a concert that drew a record-breaking crowd of nearly 10,000 people, and many of those fans left feeling energized and energized to keep the festivities going.
The venue was packed to the rafters, with a capacity of 6,000 for the first time.
Blackpinks lead singer and guitarist/vocalist/keyboardist John Prine told Rolling Stone that the show was “like a big rock concert for black people.”
Prine said the show, which was livestreamed on the band’s official Instagram page, was “a big milestone” in the band and their journey as an artist.
“This was the first black rock show, and we’re really happy with it,” he said.
“It was the perfect show for the people that came.
It was a real, live experience.
The way that we approached the show is, ‘This is the Blackpicks first time in front of a live audience, and this is a celebration of the Black Lives Matter movement.'”
The show, entitled Blackpills first live album, was released in October.
In addition to Prine and co-lead singer-guitarist Mark Lanegan, the album features members of Blackpunk and Blackpuss, the duo that has been best known for its 2014 smash single “Gangnam Style.”
Prune and Lanegan also released their own album, “A Little Less Drama,” in November, and the pair are currently in the midst of writing a new record.
They also announced that the band will begin touring in 2018, though Prine declined to reveal the dates.
The concert was streamed live on Spotify for more than 40,000 listeners.
On stage, Prine performed “The Black Parade,” an anthem he wrote in 2013, which featured a cameo from Kanye West.
The song was nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B/hip-hop album, and Prine also shared the song’s video, which is available for purchase on Spotify.
The band played a cover of Eminem’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling” that was accompanied by video footage from their tour.
“The song is so popular that we just wanted to make sure that it was on the album, because it’s the biggest thing we’ve ever done,” Prine explained.
“That was something we had never done, so it was really cool for us to see it on the record.”

Prine admitted that there was a lot of hype around the show — some fans even came up to him to ask if he was playing at their club, but he told the crowd to stay cool.
“We didn’t want people to get too excited about us, because we really just want to make music, and when we’re making music, we’re not trying to be something else,” he explained.
Prune also shared that his favorite part of the night was seeing fans take pictures with the band.
“One of my favorite parts of the show that night was when the guys would all come up and ask if they could take a picture with us,” he told Rolling Out.
“Because I’m the only person in the world who can actually take pictures of Black people in this way.”
While the concert was an incredible sight, it was also an emotional moment for the band, who have been battling mental health issues for years.
The group also revealed that they were working on a new album, but no release date was set at the time of publication.
“I don’t think we’re doing anything for sure,” Prune said.
In November, Prune announced that he had taken a leave of absence from the band for a year to help raise money for his family.
Prink’s parents have said that their son was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2015.
Prone also said that his brother has been battling depression and anxiety, but added that his health is in good hands.
“He has the support system that he needs to be able to get through this journey that he has been through,” he shared.
“There’s no question in my mind that his future is bright.
I don’t have to worry about that.
He has a really good support system.
He’s a really nice guy, and he’s been a really, really great friend.”
As Prine prepares to return to the stage in 2020, he and the band are currently working on new music.
“At this point, we’ve got three new songs in the works, and I think we’ll be coming out with a record in the next year or two
